Million Directions

I find myself all over the place today and oddly focused.

I went to the bank today and, the 40 minute ordeal, accomplished next to nothing. The bank’s policy is unclear as to whether or not a company’s name can be changed on the account even if nothing else about the company changes. This lack of clarity led to many phone calls – most to people who were not in the office today. It will be next week before I find out if I can use my current account with the new name or if I have to open a new business account. If I have to open a new account, I’ll have to find a new bank with better rates. It would be a shame since I’ve been with my bank since I opened my first account at 13 years old.

After returning from the bank, I spent time with edits before deciding to tinker with the file formatting for The Heart of Autumn‘s interior. I accidentally submitted the file without the blank pages. The blank pages are critically important to the overall look. I submitted the new interior with the pages and have to wait another 48 hours to see if that is accepted before I can order the proof.

Decided that the release date will probably be September 13, 2011 if CreateSpace cooperates with me on that. It is a Tuesday – a traditional release date – and it happens to be my 30th birthday. I think it would be very nifty to celebrate my first full-length publication on the same day as my birth.

I obtained the images for The Soul of Winter cover, The Breath of Summer cover and the logo image for Sable Quill Creations LLC. I created the Sable Quill Creations LLC banner logo for the back of the books and placed it on the updated back cover for The Heart of Autumn. I created the front cover for The Soul of Winter. Still torn about what kind of image I want for The Tears of Spring.

Next up, I have ‘Spring’ to type up along with another poem entitled ‘Alice’. I also have a piece to write for the monthly contest over at Devin’s Forum. There are more edits on the way and I want to tinker with Reaper’s Moon a little – read through it again and see where I want to take it next. Will there be enough time? Hard to say but I hope so.

Happy Dance and the Not So Happy Dance

One of the not-so-joyous aspects of a new computer (or an old one with new life) is the discovery of how much one uses everyday for software and components. Case in point, I hooked up my scanner and there are no drivers on Severa (the desktop) for this scanner. After some Google-fu, I found drivers for a similar model as HP no longer makes drivers for the model I have. Here’s to hoping the drivers work because I no idea where the driver disks are or if I even have them. The scanner once belong to my mom so the disks are probably hiding in her house.

Today, I received my business documentation back from the State of Colorado stating I had filed the wrong document to change the company name. I wasn’t horribly surprised as their website is beyond cryptic. Thanks for small graces, they stated what forms I could use. The first I looked at was outrageously expensive and the second was inexpensive and yielded immediate results. A few clicks later, Sable Quill Creations LLC was all official.

I wandered over to CreateSpace, updated my profile with the new company name and the EIN then obtained the ISBN for The Heart of Autumn‘s paperback. Later this weekend, all the final formatting for The Heart of Autumn will take place so I can get the proof and finalize the publishing process. Awesome! I took the ISBN and created a book page over at Goodreads. I also had my personal profile tied into my author profile. Super spiffy. Ever so excited! Happy Dance!

To add to the happy dance, my living room/office is mostly clean. You have no idea how rare it is for me to see a clean sofa and more than 50% of the floor. Clutter and I are great enemies. Finally, I can move my sewing table out of the guinea pigs’ room and into the living room.

Still waiting for the scanner’s drivers to install so I can start scanning a bunch of images. Oh how I hope it all works…

I have started work on the next two poetry books, The Soul of Winter and The Tears of Spring. Both are comprised of poetry written in the past – ’99-’01 and ’04 respectively – and are currently undergoing edits. This past week, I wrote the seasonal poems for the beginning of each. ‘Winter’ went together beautifully and fit the theme even though I hadn’t chosen the poems yet. ‘Spring’ ended up using 4 lines I had written but unable to finish into a whole thought. Both books will be released in 2012.
