New Poetry Wednesday – Old Books

Old Books

Books to line my coffin
To line my trail
As I wash my sins awayUndertakers Cover
In their yellowed pages
Leather spines
Linen covers

Forgive me
Forgive me
It does no good

Books to line my essence
Under the full moon
To force my hand
To display my heart
On tattered sleeve

Forgive me
Forgive me
It does not register

Bare feet
On my trail
Claret stained ink
Cracked leather spines
Fraying linen covers
Testament to the grievances
In books
Lining my coffin
Lining my trail
