Poetry Wednesday – Summer Deities

Summer Deities

robbed by summer deities
feel anger simmer up
to the breaking point
never thought to be reached
cannot take anymore
jokes at the expense of living
to be robbed again and again
when labors become done vain
what is the point of continuing on
hard to be steadfast on the path
traveled with bloody shins
dripping out the stumble pattern
left it to be robbed by summer deities
lurking among the trees with bow and arrows
waiting for the unsuspecting to come along
in hopes of success, of peace
to finally come their way
that labors can bring more than pain
they come near to bring
more than what one could
ever bargain for
release into the canopy of trees
hope for unseen even by precocious deities
