Poetry Wednesday – Tree

Tree

I see
For so long I have
Seen the tree
Through forests
Blacken, dying
Bitter green, struggling
But I cannot seem
To break free from
This maze
Charred branches pulling me in
Wanting to hold, devour
My subconscious
Trapping me in shadow
Until the Reaper comes
Comes to save me
But how can I surrender
To Death when I have yet
The chance to live
Live by my terms
Free of another’s doubts
How to track the tree
Adorned in the silver fleece
Beckons, tempts, taunts
