NaPoWriMo 2019 – Day 16

Whiskey

Cannot seem to swallow
You down no matter
The amount of whiskey
I drown myself in
Departure bringing me to
Knees I didn’t even know
Still existed been so long
Since sorrow had come along
To force me into kneeling
An attempt to cope with
The pain of loss
Cannot seem to swallow
You down no matter
The pain you brought to
My being soaked in whiskey
Far too many laments
I did fashion from tatters
Of my bedsheets twisted
Their agony apparent as
My own while I choke
Cannot seem to swallow
Your memory down no matter
The amount of whiskey
I drown you in
A feeble attempt to bury you
Deep inside so I
Don’t have to feel
To know the nature
Of your loving on my skin
I want to flay in strips
So I opt for falling
Into a bottle of whiskey
I cannot seem to swallow
